UGA Locker Room Tour

Check out this great video of Tavarres King and Vince Vance's tour of the UGA locker room on Georgia Sports Blog. I will have to post the pics from football camp to compare-yes we have been in those bathrooms!

Basketball: The FSU Victory Over Ga. Tech

Now on to the sport that apparently they do get excited about around here-basketball! It might also have something to do with that they are winning and making a run at the ACC right now. So last week I attended my first FSU basketball game because they were playing-yep you guessed it- Ga. Tech. So I had to go do my duty as the Dawgs ambassador and cheer against the jackets. Now we all know the state of UGA basketball this year so this was a much improved basketball atmosphere than what I am used to!

So I do not know any of the player's names so I cheered for them by features. To the right is sock boy

Just for you guys - below is a picture of the Nationally 2nd place FSU Golden Girls (who knew they ranked that kind of thing!)

And here we have the Tech bench looking dejected....

And the last shot to seal the 62-58 win!

Football

Well as I found out during the fall that football is not the sport they get excited about here. I was really surprised too. The traffic, tailgating and everything was like a ghost town compared to Athens on game day! There was finally a weekend that we had an early game and FSU had a late game so I was off to experience some ACC football. I mean FSU is supposed to be a big football school right?

Even for a key ACC matchup against Boston College, a night game on espn, and was their version of "the blackout" the crowd was sparse, no tailgating in the sense like I am used to in Athens. The fans in the section where I sat were making fun of their own team and got more excited and paid better attention to the bobblehead race on the big screen than they did the game.

We just have no idea how lucky we are in Athens until we have to do without!

The Condo

Ok let's start with moving here - luckily I found a place to live on my first trip down here to look at places. I saw about 6-8 places in one day (I lost count). The last one of the day was a condo downtown in a high rise- The Tennyson. It is only 5 blocks from campus, very nice area, convenient to everything, covered assigned parking, only 2 years old and best of all- furnished with very nice furniture.

The problem is that it is owned by a huge FSU booster who originally bought it just to have a place to stay when he came for football games. Seems that now he has purchased an RV so he rents out the condo. As you can see in the pictures below there were a few things that I HAD to change. Take a look at these pictures:

Yes, that's right, that is a Bobby Bowden autographed picture of the FSU Standium, and you cannot see the whole thing, but next to it is a picture of a Seminole (also signed by B.B). Well those had to go! They are now in the closet. I have replaced them as seen below:
Next up - the second bedroom I am using as an office:
Yes, more Seminole/FSU pictures and the room is even painted in garnet and gold. This did not make for a good work environment for me! So a few more changes were in order!
Too bad there was nothing I could do about the paint!

Fall, Football and PhD

So I promised all my friends that I would keep up a blog for my year in Tallahassee to keep in contact, let them know how I was doing, and what it was like to be a college student on campus again after 10 years...

That was until I realized I was in for more work than I had ever experienced in my life! So now it is the new year I have settled in and have resolved to try and back track through the fall and keep up to date for now...well we will see the semester starts today!

Florida State?!

That was the response from all my friends when I told them I was going to move to Tallahassee for the year to complete the residency requirement for the PhD. Yes it was hard to imagine attending another university, much less moving to Florida, but when a university calls and offers you a full fellowship you say "thank you" and pack your bags no matter what...Well maybe not if it had been the University of Florida I would have had to say No Thanks!

So I was off to the land of the Seminole and the ACC...
